The clinical units of the Center render highly skilled aid to more than 29,000 patients with various obstetric operations that are conducted every year. About 1,500 deliveries, 900 obstetrical and gynecological operations are performed annually. Investigation of women is conducted using endoscopic, sonographic, immune, x - ray, medico – genetic and other recently developed methods. Laser and cryogenic technique is widely used in gynecology. Non – drug medicating factors (magnitotherapy, ultrasound) and methods of traditional medicine (acupuncture, manual therapy, phythotherapy, and homeopathy) are also actively practiced. Methods for artificial insemination using husband’s or donor’s semen, and extra corporal (in vitro) fertilization with embryo transfer have been worked out and used. About 25,000 women from all regions of the republic are given qualified outpatient medical aid at the Center every year.

Since 1993 professor Okoev is the Head of the Chair of Obstetrics/Gynecology, National Institute of Health of RA, while since 1999 Professor Okoev supervises the Center of Maternal and Child Health Protection of MOH, RA. Since the same year, i.e. 1999, Professor Okoev is also the director of WHO Collaborating Center on Human Reproduction. Professor G. G. Okoev developed and introduced methods of perinatal diagnosis, such as ultrasound, cardiotocography, chorion biopsy, cordocentesis and in-vitro fertilization into practical medicine of Armenia. Main works of professor G. G. Okoev are focused on the improvement of treatment and rehabilitation of patients with benign tumors of uterus and adnexes, in vitro fertilization, and embrion transfer. He is the author of 130 scientific works, including 3 monographs, 2 books, 5 teaching manuals, and 1 invention. |

The Center is a clinical base for postgraduate training of doctors, midwives, nurses in obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, traditional medicine (acupuncture, manual therapy, homeopathy, phytotherapy), laboratory diagnostics.

| WHO Collaborating Center on Human Reproduction |

For more than 20 years the Center is collaborating with the UNDP/UNFPA/WHO/World Bank Special Program on Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction. Since 1986 the Center is an independent WHO collaborating center on Human Reproduction. It performs scientific research in the field of reproductive health both independently as well as within the framework of the cooperation with the WHO appropriate program, taking part in WHO’s multicentral projects. The Center’s main fields of activity are infertility, contraception and abortion. The Center took part in 14 multicentral scientific research projects, whereas currently it assists 4 new projects. A number of specialists of the Center passed trainings on human reproduction in England, Belgium, as well as in Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary. They also took part in congresses and other scientific forums, presenting results of their work. In conjunction with the 20th anniversary of WHO, Special Program on Research, Development and Research training, our center was awarded with WHO certificate in recognition of the center’s special contribution in the improvement of national and international health reproduction programs. | |
