| The department of surgical gynecology hosts patients with tumors of female genital organs, anomalies of uterus and adnexes development, perineal ruptures (3th and 4th stages), etc. Highly qualified gynecologists perform all kinds of gynecological surgery, including cavity operations, as well as plastic operations. Also combined urological-proctological-gynecological surgery is performed in the department. Diagnostic and surgical laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and lazer-therapy are widely used in the department. Annually, an average of 600 large-scale surgical interventions is performed in the department. Maximum favorable conditions are created both for the patients and for the personnel in the department. | ||

| The scientific research of the department concentrates mainly on the development of principles of diagnosis, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of women’s disordered reproductive functions. For many years this research has been concentrated on the improvement of the diagnosis, treatment of pelvic inflammatory diseases, sexually transmitted infections and cervical pathology. New methods of diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders of reproductive system, neuroendocrinal syndromes (poly cystic ovary syndrome, hypothalamic syndrome), infertility gynecological diseases and abnormal sexual growth, have been developed and introduced into practical use. In addition, non-drug methods of treatment are widely used in the department, such as phytotherapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, laser therapy, cryotherapy, physiotherapy. Within the framework of the cooperation with WHO, the department is involved in studies on medicated abortion using analogues of prostaglandins and antiprogestins, problems of efficiency and applicability of current contraceptives as well as epidemiology of abortion. The department pioneered in Armenia in the in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. On the 5th of February 2004, first babies conceived outside the mother’s body were born in Armenia. Within the framework of international co-operation, the department along with “The Institute De Medicine De la Reproduction” ( Marseille, France) is engaged in the solution of the problems of infertility and IVF. Gynecology of childhood and adolescence unit: The research of the Unit concentrates mainly on the development of methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gynecological diseases, abnormalities of sexual maturity of girls. Methods of diagnosis and investigation of sexual growth abnormalities have been developed and introduced into practical use. The pathogenesis, clinical course, methods of diagnosis, and treatment of juvenile hemorrhage, hypothalamic syndrome, amenorrhea have been studied. | ||

| Anesthesia in obstetrics and gynecology is performed using local regional methods, as well as all kinds of inhalation and non-inhalation anesthesia, in some cases in combination with needle-reflex therapy. Besides, the department staff performs hyper-baric oxygenation in cases of anemia, fetal hypoxia, intrauterine fetal growth retardation, delivery process disorders. Also in the department plasmopheresis is performed in cases of rhesus-conflict, anti-phospholipid syndrome. Extra-corporal detoxication: ultra-violet radiation of the blood in combination with afferit methods - is also performed in the department. The staff of the department actively participates in the treatment of pregnant women with severe pre-eclampsia. Blood and blood components are prepared and preserved in the department. | ||
